There are many ways and levels for people to be politically engaged. One is the informed citizen, a person who makes time to read the news and learn about the issues of the day. Others are engaged on the social level, the people who discuss events and ideologies among social circles. Then there is the active level, where people take action for the things they believe in by rallying to causes dear to their hearts, voting, volunteering with organizations, and even making a career out of politics.
This message is for those who want to become actively engaged in the political sphere. If you are tired of sitting on the sidelines and want to make a difference in the happenings of our city, here is a perfect opportunity for you to get involved! This month City Hall is opening its doors to any Bramptonians interested in joining a citizen advisory committee. These fourteen committees, in their own unique ways, help to strengthen the legacy and complexity of our city.
For example, if you celebrate the diversity of our community and want to make activities inclusive to all citizens, then you may be interested in joining the Inclusion and Equity Committee. On the other hand, you may have a strong passion for preserving the environment and fostering sustainable practices. In that case, you may want to join the Environment Advisory Committee. Perhaps you are a sports fan who would like to promote local athletes. You can accomplish this by becoming a member of the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame Committee.
There are citizen advisory committees for heritage, cycling, zoning, school traffic, airports and more! Descriptions for these committees can be found by clicking here.
This link will also provide you with information on how to apply for a committee of your choice.
There is also an opportunity to learn about these committees firsthand. A public information session is being held on Monday January 19th at 7:00PM in the council chambers of City Hall. For those who can make it to the event, it will be a chance to ask in depth questions about the application process and the committees themselves. We at Enrich will also be at the event to learn about the committees so, if you are unable to attend, you will be able to learn about them through a follow-up article.
If you want to make a difference in Brampton, now is your chance!
Applications for joining a committee are available on the City of Brampton’s website and are due by Friday January 30th at 4:30PM.
